When one thinks of Paris, one thing generally comes to mind- the Eiffel Tower. This world famous landmark is synonymous with Paris, but there is so much more to the historic city than just one metal tower. Here at the Heart Bandits, we think that you should look a little further afield for an ideal spot for a Paris proposal, so we’ve scouted out some less-touristy spots that capture the beauty and history of Paris.  Here are some great Paris Proposal Ideas:

Bridges

Paris is a city of bridges, and some of the most stunning and historic are neglected by the tourists. Check out the Pont Alexandre III with its stunning gilded statues and ornate antique streetlights, or the Pont au Double, which is a small and understated single-arch bridge that exudes the subtle artistry of Paris architecture. The Pont des Arts is well-known, but still not overcrowded, and its railings bear hundreds of locks left there by newlyweds as tokens of their love for each other.

Boats

The Seine runs through Paris, and many of the most beautiful landmarks are built along the course of this beautiful river and its canals. A private boat tour can be arranged to view the city in luxury, away from the prying eyes of the crowds.

Churches

Paris’s stunning architecture is exemplified by the churches and cathedrals throughout the city. The Notre Dame Cathedral is popular with tourists, but the Sainte-Chapelle with its incredible stained glass and the Eglise St. Sulpice with its towering Greco-Roman pillars are stunning but often overlooked gems.

Old Neighborhoods

Paris is a beautiful city, and you don’t need to go to a famous landmark to find picturesque spot for your Paris proposal. Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint-Louis, islands in the river Seine, are small and peaceful relics of Old Paris, with winding roads and old mansions. The islands retain their peaceful, residential feel since the islands are not on the way to any popular destinations and contain no metro stops, so it’s easy to create a quiet moment on the street.

Parks and Gardens

Paris is rich with green spaces, from historic formal gardens to verdant modern parks. The Luxembourg Gardens are popular, but large enough that you won’t feel crowded, and offer a verdant view redolent with the history of Paris.

Fountains

Paris has some of the most beautiful fountains in the world, which make for stunning proposal photos. The Medici fountain dates back to the 16th century, and its gothic carved stone is a fascinating backdrop. The Fontaines de la Concorde send picturesque jets of water arcing through the air, and the white spray creates a cool and peaceful atmosphere.
