There are many reasons why you may choose to propose with a temporary engagement ring. You may want to wait until you can go to the jewelry store and pick out her engagement ring together. That way, you don’t mess it up! You may also be traveling and just don’t trust that TSA won’t blow your cover when you go through security. Maybe you are proposing at the top of a bridge that goes over the beautiful waterway. You may therefore be having reoccurring nightmares that you drop the ring into the water as you pull it out. That actually has happened!
I can certainly see the case as to why you may want to go with a temporary engagement ring. But there is a big fear that I have for my clients. What if for a split second she believes the temporary ring is the actual ring you got her and she feels sad? When you think back to your proposal day, you don’t want her to have any negative feelings about it. I just wonder if she sees the cubic zirconia ring is she going to think, “Oh I hate this ring?” And even if you do end up telling her later, will she still feel momentary negativity?
So when Lara from Hellyeahaccessories emailed me a picture of her temporary engagement ring, I thought that might be a cool option. It actually says right on the ring, “TEMPORARY ENGAGEMENT RING” so she will know right away that you have bigger and better plans in store. What do you think?
