We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this proposal! When Becky went out for a couple of drinks with an old friend on a pleasant June evening in Seattle, she didn’t suspect that there might be any ulterior motive behind the meeting. She and her friend decided to get dinner together, but it was a long walk to the restaurant, and they decided to take a pedicab instead.
However, when they reached the restaurant, Becky’s friend disembarked, and she was greeted by a flock of friends and relatives, each bearing a deep red long-stemmed rose. One of them arranged a stereo on the seat beside her, playing Bruno Mars’s “Marry You.” As the pedicab continued to wind through the streets of Seattle, every corner they turned revealed another smiling face and another rose, until Becky was in tears and carrying an enormous bouquet.
When the tour was finally over, the pedicab rolled into Olympic Sculpture Park with a crowd of well-wishers following on foot. As the music from the stereo died down, another rousing tune struck up- from the marching band headed straight for Becky. The band played a spirited rendition of “Hey Baby” as Michael Donia, Becky’s sweetheart since eighth grade, approached her in a tuxedo, ring in hand. As the song ended, he proposed, and Becky joyfully accepted.
This is an amazing example of a carefully planned, thoughtful proposal. The music was geared to Becky’s tastes, and the adventurous format swept her off her feet. The involvement of their friends and family turned the proposal into an instant celebration, with hugs, congratulations, and dancing to follow throughout the evening. The “night out” with a friend made sure that Becky was wearing a beautiful dress, so that she shines next to Michael in all of the photos of the proposal, without giving her even and inkling of what was to come. Michael was also sure to record the proposal- a gopro fastened to the pedicab preserved Becky’s journey on film, and professional photographers captured the proposal itself and the celebration afterward. We did a pedicab proposal a while back, such a cute idea! Watch it here.
