A few weeks ago, we wrote a blog about what a woman should do if she hates her engagement ring. Now it is time to help you get through the process. What will you do if she hates your engagement ring? Keep these 3 things in mind!
- Try not to take it personal
- Try to understand that it is something she has to wear forever so you want her to love it
- Explain your side
Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to get it right, and there is a chance that the ring you choose will not work for your sweetheart. It can be very distressing to be told that your ring choice was wrong, but stay calm and talk it through.
If the ring is simply not her style, you can explain to her why you selected the style you did. However, if it is a purely aesthetic disagreement, the best solution may be to graciously agree to take the ring back and exchange it for one that you both find pleasing.
Budget is another ring constraint that can cause friction; if she has always dreamed about a big, flashy diamond ring, but a slim budget has forced you to choose a more modest stone, then be frank with her. Explain that you spent what you could, but that you do not have the funds for a larger stone. Remind her that you will be able to upgrade in the future, and that you have many years to choose the newer, better ring. If she still wants a bigger, flashier ring, consider lower-priced alternatives such as moissanite, which provide a glamorous look for a smaller price tag.
It can be upsetting to find out that your ring choice was suboptimal, but as with all problems in marriage, the most important thing is communication. She is showing a lot of trust in you by voicing her concerns about the ring, and it’s your responsibility to listen sympathetically and to have a calm, honest conversation about this important part of your engagement.
