Don’t try to rub your eyes and make this photo more clear.  Sadly, this is my actual proposal picture.  My husband, bless his heart, proposed to me on a sunset cruise in April 2010.  He had never heard of a proposal photographer and back then, there weren’t any resources giving men proposal advice.  Therefore, I have no photos of the moment he got down on one knee to ask me to be his wife.  And my memory is awful so it pretty much sucks.  He at least asked someone in the cabin downstairs to take a photo of us after I said yes, but unfortunately, this is it.  Blurry, out of focus, and all I have to remember my proposal by. So it should come as no surprise that I wanted to help other women out by making sure they had a great proposal.  And part of that is to make sure they have photos of their proposal!

Now I understand, not everyone can afford a professional photographer and that is ok.  If you can’t, at least find a way to have the moment caught on camera.  Whether it is a friend that helps out, a stranger, or even a selfie stick, she will be grateful.  But just know that your photo may come out like mine did.  There are some advantages to hiring a professional to do the job.  For one, many people use these professional images as their engagement announcements or even at their wedding.  Taking a great photo takes true talent and professional photographers know how to use lighting and consider all elements when capturing your big moment.

When choosing the right photographer for your event, look for past proposal photos they have taken and see if you like their style and the way they edit images.  There are some photographers that give you your photos within a few days and don’t do a lot of editing.  Consider if that is what is best for you or if you want a photographer that is more artistic and spends a lot of time making your images perfect.  Decide if you want to hire a company that knocks out multiple proposals a day or if you prefer a more boutique style photographer that will really spend time getting to know you and your preferences.

We at The Heart Bandits have relationships with excellent proposal photographers that do amazing work and really care about making your marriage proposal special.  If you need help coming up with the perfect proposal idea and executing it, we are here to help.  Don’t overlook the fact that nothing will ruin your proposal photos more than pulling your engagement ring out of your sock.  Check out this mini engagement ring box that is slim and low profile at www.ringstash.com
