As the winter weather sets in and the holidays draw closer, it becomes more and more tempting to plan a special holiday proposal for your sweetheart. A holiday proposal is a way to create great memories, and gives you an opportunity to add some extra sparkle to your proposal. Here’s a checklist of things to do when planning a holiday proposal
- Take advantage of holiday deals with jewelers and other retailers. Many companies run specials, and there may even be sales specifically on engagement rings at some stores.
- Check out off-season deals for budget-friendly opportunities. Many venues, for instance, do most of their business in the summer and slash rates in the slower winter months.
- Make reservations early, especially with vendors or locations that will be in high demand for the holidays. Caterers and many event spaces do a lot of business in the holiday season, and you might get locked out if you don’t reserve them as soon as you can.
- Know your (and her) family’s and friends’ holiday plans, to avoid conflict or overscheduling. It’s especially important that your proposal doesn’t overshadow (or get overshadowed by) a big family event.
- Establish a decoy holiday plan, to make sure she doesn’t leave town or schedule over your proposal. Don’t go all out on the decoy, and don’t make promises you don’t plan on keeping, but make sure that she’s got that time penciled in.
- Recruit any helpers early, so no one is double booked. The last thing you want is for your main helper to already be committed to running a holiday party or traveling somewhere at the same time as your proposal.
- Come up with an original way to deliver the ring; avoid holiday clichés, such as the ring in a gift box or on a tree branch.
