A modern girl’s search for an engagement ring is far different then her mother’s or grandmother’s. The extensive outpour of options available can leave a lady wondering where to begin!  Accessibility to Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, web ads, and magazines are only just the beginning when it comes to the exposure of viewable ring styles. How could one not dream, pin, plan and share her perfect engagement ring?

There are several great paths to choose from when planning that will leave you thrilled with your beautiful new jewel, and him comfortable and engaged with the process and well on his way to planning a surprise proposal!

Building a Wish List

The vast majority of engagement couples now begin their search together. It’s perfectly acceptable and welcome for the woman to build a defined wish list of engagement rings with several options. There are truly so many styles to choose from that without a wish list, the search for men can sometimes be a bit daunting. The beauty of a wish list is it gives him an idea of her favorite pieces, yet still lets him have the element of surprise. I always recommend trying to keep three options listed.  It will give him a small focused selection to choose from, yet still leaves you feeling like you are well on your way to your dream ring.

Choosing the Diamond

Additionally, let him choose the center diamond on his own.  The style of the ring is about personal expression, and the diamond is the heart behind the piece.  When you leave him with an idea of the diamond shapes you like best, it gives him direction yet leaves him with the excitement and responsibility of selecting the quality and size of your favorite shape to work within his budget.

Teamwork is Okay

For those who want a complete surprise, yet are wary of choosing the perfect style ring amidst the countless options, there is an easy and clear solution. One of our favorite recommendations is to spend time selecting the perfect center diamond and then present it in a classic solitaire.  From there, she can come in and have the diamond reset into the setting of her choice.  It’s the perfect way to combine a surprise proposal and a dream ring design!

A proposal is one of life’s most romantic and memorable moments.  Many girls dream about not only the moment, but also the ring for years before the actual presentation.  Searching for your engagement ring should be an exciting, enjoyable, and dream-worthy moment for all involved.  Building a wish list, giving him options, and letting him take the lead will put you well on your way to an engagement ring to also love for a lifetime!
