Proposing with children

If you’re thinking of how to include children in your proposal, there are several ways to go about it. For starters, consider their ages and personalities. These are important factors to consider when you’re deciding how to include them in the proposal.  The Heart Bandits can help you consider these details and take care of the proposal ideas and planning so all you have to do is focus on your family.

To get started, take a look at these 4 Heartfelt Ways to Include Kids in Your Proposal:

Write Letters

If you’re good at expressing your emotions, consider taking the time to write heartfelt letters.  Write one to her and the kids as this could be an affectionate way to incorporate the entire family into your proposal Just make sure the child is old enough to understand the true impact of your words. If the child is younger, keep the note really simple.

Jewelry

If mementos mean a lot to her child, a thoughtful piece of jewelry might be an adorable way to include them in your marriage proposal. Before or after you get down on one knee, you can also take a moment to express yourself to her child and surprise them with a delicate necklace.  If the child is young, consider something more kid-friendly.

Imaginary Friend

Depending on the age of her child, you can get creative and incorporate their favorite stuffed animal or action figure. The Heart Bandits has helped plan romantic proposals where a pink unicorn “held” a sign to include her daughter in the proposal. She absolutely loved unicorns so this was a very special touch to this family.  Be sure to write a proposal message with the character to help you express your thoughts to the child in a creative way.

Planning Help

If they’re old enough to keep a secret, you can include them in your marriage proposal by asking them to help you plan certain details. They may be able to help you pick out her favorite flower or restaurant.  They can even help you coordinate the logistics in terms of getting her to the proposal venue without ruining the surprise. For many older kids, responsibility is one of the best ways to let them know you trust them and want them involved in your life decision.  Just make sure that you set the child up for success so they can really shine.
