We absolutely LOVED doing this unique marriage proposal for Mark in Chicago. We actually helped out Mark’s brother Andy (check it out here) with his proposal last year and we were thrilled to hear that Mark wanted to use our help as well.
Mark and his girlfriend Giselle had a lot of elements to their history that stood out to us and we wanted a way to incorporate them into a unique proposal story.
Some of the things that stood out to us when we interviewed Mark were that on their first date, they went to a classy restaurant but were both so nervous that food particles kept flying out everywhere. It was something that they both always remembered. Second, they had a very funny experience on another date. A bee flew into their car while driving and landed on his shoulder. Mark freaked out, stopped in the middle of the road, and ran out. Giselle laughed about that event and loved to share. Third, a unique aspect of their relationship is that Giselle gives a lot of cute talk to Mark and he teases her back by saying “That’s Enough!” as an inside joke. Lastly, some of their favorite memories have been on car rides being silly.
We decided to incorporate all of these elements into a very creative proposal. The plan went like this. Mark told Giselle that he had something planned. On a gorgeous day in Chicago he took on on a pedicab around the Millenium Park area (which we pre-planned). As the cab drove, at one corner, they noticed a table with a couple eating dinner. They were both clumsily eating and spilling things everywhere.
At the next corner, the driver passed a couple where the girl was pinching the guy’s cheek. The guy in turn was holding a sign that said “That’s enough!”.
A short distance from that was another couple in a mock Hummer cardboard cutout that mimicked their bee incident. The actors had a bee on a stick that they acted out was attacking the driver. That station was my favorite.
After that point, Mark walked Giselle out from the cab and took her to The Bean. At The Bean, there was a huge crowd including some of her friends and family. A guitarist appeared and played their song of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz. As he was playing a friend brought out a chalkboard sign that asked if she wanted to marry Mark. She had to choose her option on the chalkboard. She chose “Heck Yes!”. Congrats to Mark and Giselle on your very unique and impressive proposal!
