Marvin and I headed to New York to plan a proposal and to also scout out some new proposal ideas. There is an endless array of options for a proposal outing in New York City, but just choosing the right set of activities is a daunting task. Today we want to share with you adventurous NYC proposal ideas we came up with on our last visit.

Step 1: An Idle Stroll

Start the afternoon by suggesting a meander through the East Village, looking at different shops. This is a pleasant and romantic way to spend a few hours- walking side by side, chatting and exploring.  They even have a store you can take her in where you can make your own perfume!  As you stroll, gently guide her toward east 7th Street and 1st Avenue, where you have step 2 all lined up.

Step 2: A Bite to Eat

If you’ve played your cards right, you will arrive at Caracas Arepa Bar just in time for your dinner reservation. She will be delighted that you have taken the trouble to plan such a romantic- and delicious!- surprise for her. The exotic Venezuelan food is a spicy and unexpected find, even in New York, and the handcrafted dishes on offer are sure to delight her. The ambiance is very New York and cute and romantic.  Just make sure that you are finished with your meal in time to head down the street for part 3 of the evening.

Step 3: A Moment in the Spotlight

Located on east 3rd Street, Nuyorican Poets Café is a haven for poets and lovers of poetry from all over the city. The café has many events, from author’s nights to open mics. Reveal to your sweetheart that you have set up an evening of culture and contemplation at a poetry show. Walk from the restaurant to the café, and find a table near the stage for the best view. Enjoy the first few performers, then slip away to the restroom.

Imagine your beloved’s surprise when you reappear, not at the table, but on the stage- where you step up to the mic and start to speak. This is the time to deliver your proposal- one you wrote yourself, or composed with help from a professional poet. Whether in plain spoken English or arranged in verse, the words will be exactly what need to be said. Invite her up on stage so that you can go down on one knee, and slip the ring onto her finger.

Of course, a Venezuelan feast and a poetry slam may not be your perfect proposal- but surely the care, planning, and inspiration of this evening are something you would like to capture in your own proposal. That’s why you should contact Wedding Proposal Planners The Heart Bandits, so that they can guide you on the road to creating your own amazing proposal experience, no matter what that means to you.
