Marriage proposal back story used recently on a “Pretty Woman” themed proposal.

One big thing that I have learned as a Proposal Planner at The Heart Bandits is that in order to create a great surprise and story for your marriage proposal, you absolutely must have a solid back story. The back story is essentially the story that you tell your girlfriend what you’re going to do that day. If you don’t have a good one, then you risk having your proposal go wrong or your girlfriend not wanting to go forward with your “fake” story. These are some things to keep in mind.

It Can’t Be Something Too Unnatural

What I mean by this is that it should be something that you two could see yourselves doing if you weren’t proposing. If you two never do anything outdoorsy and all of a sudden you tell her that you are planning a hike, then that will seem very suspicious.

If you can’t think of anything, then tell her you want to do something that you normally do but then something “comes up” in the middle. An example of this is if you normally go to restaurants in a certain plaza, you tell her you’re doing that again. This time however, as you’re going to dinner you notice a crowd of people and you tell her you want to check it out. This crowd ends up being singers for your proposal. This would be a great way to pull off your story.

Keep it Relatively Simple

The way to pull off a good back story is to keep it simple. Don’t give too many details about it because it could potentially create problems. Keep it as simple as possible. If your story is you’re going to see a movie, try to keep it simple by not divulging too much information. If you tell her you want to see a movie at a certain time, she may end up looking herself and if that movie isn’t playing, you’re going to have to think of something else.

Involve Helpers

One of the best ways to have a good story is to have helpers. If you tell her friends your proposal plot, then they would be able to relay some information to her, but remember to keep it simple. If she hears this back story from multiple sources, then she would likely not question it and it would fall right into place.

Of course the best way to create a good back story is to get help from the Proposal Planners at The Heart Bandits.
