Family is important to you and to your partner, so it is perfectly natural that you would want them to play a part in your proposal idea.  Yet, what are the best ways to get family members involved while still keeping the proposal a surprise?

A Sign of Love

If you’re planning an outdoors proposal and definitely want family members present, think about having those family members hold up signs with the words “Will You Marry Me?” on them.  Just make sure that your partner doesn’t see the signs beforehand!

A Family Gathering

If you want to have a private proposal but still want your family to be a part of your big day, think about hosting a post-engagement party.  Fly grandma in from out of state, make sure your partner’s cousins can make it, he larger the group of loved ones, the better!  Lead your partner to the party after you’ve proposed for another amazing surprise – just keep a tissue handy.

Photos are Forever

One of the best ways to have your family be a part of the proposal is through a scrapbook.  Have pictures taken showing your parents, and your partner’s parents, at their wedding day and now. Perhaps even have them pose the same way they did for their wedding photographs. At the end of the scrapbook, you can have a photo of you and your partner with a blank spot next to it and a caption underneath stating that it is meant for a photo of the two of you, years after your own wedding day.

Think Vintage

Consider using items from loved ones in your proposal that are meaningful to you and your partner.  Wear your father’s cufflinks or your mother’s pearls for the occasion.  Perhaps you could propose using a ring that has been passed down through the family for generations.  For a perfect proposal, be sure to purchase a ring box from www.ringstash.com – a sleek and compact ring box that will keep your treasured heirloom safe and concealed until the big moment comes.

Consider the Kids

If you and your partner have children together, having them be a part of your proposal will make it even more special.  Consider having your child present the ring box to your partner, or propose while taking family photos!  Just let the photographer know ahead of time what you’re planning.
